Darin Kyle Tap Dance
There
will be many toes tapping to the beat of Darin Kyle’s performance at the
Martial Arts Gala 2004. The dancer plans to perform the routine that garnered him
the title of World Tap Dance Champion 2001 or a funky R&B dance to singer Aaliyah’s
hit song, “Are You That Somebody? “
If you still remember tap dance as something Fred Astaire or Ginger Rogers did,
this demonstration will knock you off your feet. “This is definitely not
your father’s type of Tap. This Tap is new and evolved. “says Darin.
At the age of five, Darin saw Sammy Davis Jr. performing on television, which
sparked his interest in the art of Tap. He trained at the Ottawa Dance Academy
and in 2001, traveled to Riesa, Germany to compete for Canada, winning gold and
becoming Canada’s “first” World Tap Dance Champion.
Darin is the Hip Hop / Tap Dance instructor for Carleton University’s
Athletics Recreational Programs and also teaches at the “Pointe
of Grace” Dance Company, Stittsville, the “D.A.D.X.”
Dance Academy in Brockville and “Michelle’s School of Performing
Arts” in Pembroke.
The D.A.D.X. dancers featured in the show include in no particular order: Erin
Tackaberry, Jeanette McGeough, Teaghan Dixie, Ashley Zufelt, Touwanna-Shell Francois,
Jessica Raison, Rachael Ball, Krista Duncan, and Lauren Quattrocchi.
